This is a Masterpiece pen made only for a very short period of time at the moment of model change, away from the celluloid made 14x pens of the fifties towards the injection molded pens with the hooded nibs. The Roesler book "Collectible stars" states, that the model was never seen in a price list. However, the pen shows a technical error, which caused the cap lips to crack with the first moment of use: Threads of the cap are near the cap lip, and no cap band to reinforce the cap where the threads are. Thus, the mechanical forces inevitably crack the cap lips when the cap is screwed onto the pen. This 144 still has the twotone Masterpiece nib. Cap band is engraved 144. However, most of the other parts already resemble the 1960ies design. In detail, the barrel is from a Model 14 Masterpiece, the blue threaded ink window from a model 34, the section was made for this model, based on the no. 14 nib unit.
